The Public Museum in Grand Rapids is a collections-based educational organization that seeks to educate and delight the public, contribute to the well-being of its community, and enhance the quality of life in West Michigan.
Description:
Volunteers bring the Public Museum of Grand Rapids and its top-notch exhibits to life for students and adults. Located on the banks of the Grand River, the worlds class Van Andel Museum Center hosts permanent exhibits that teach and interpret the history and natural science of West Michigan. Volunteers help with hands-on and interpretive programs for groups from diverse age groups, assist staff with special events, greet and assist visitors and fulfill many essential roles at the Museum. There are no fees to volunteer and we provide free adjacent covered parking. Come join us and we'll find a place for you!
History:
Known today as the Public Museum in Grand Rapids, the Museum was founded in 1854 as the Grand Rapids Lyceum of Natural History. It is Michigan's oldest and third largest museum, hosting visitors annually from every Michigan County,U.S. State and Canadian province and many foreign countries.
