Provide the unconditional love that comes with four feet, warm nose and a furry coat for patients receiving end of life care. Sometimes the most comforting presence is one that has no words but instead offers a warm nuzzle and friendly face and head that wants a pat. As a Visiting Dog you would be assigned to patients in long-term care facilities, hospitals and private homes where patients are receiving hospice
Note: Volunteers are asked to wait one year from the death of a family member or friend before volunteering.
You must be accompanied by your favorite human. This human must complete the initial hospice training series. We require dogs to be certified thru West Michigan Dog Therapy. Information regarding certification and registration for classes can be found at www.wmtd.clubexpress.com. Volunteers are encouraged to register their furry friend for certification classes prior to volunteer orientation.
The next Volunteer Orientation Training in Grand Rapids will be on Jan 12, 19, 26, Feb 2 and 9, from 6 pm - 9pm.
