Bedside Harp Volunteer - Spectrum Health Hospice Health

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 23, 2009

For harpists, harpers and for those who do not yet play harp. Offer the comfort and connection of music to patients receiving end-of-life care. This special form of patient-centered bedside support reaches patients even when communication is severely impaired.

We welcome harpists (lever or pedal) who own their own harp, and have a repertoire of music that would be conducive to working with hospice patients.

We will also train interested individuals who do not own or play the harp to play bedside modal therapeutic harp technique. Modal harping provides beautiful soothing music using a sample technique that even non-musicians can master. Training will involve weekly practice using one of our program therapy harps.

Hospice volunteer training provided. Once trained, ongoing in-services are provided for support and skill development.
The time commitment involves visiting/playing for the patient weekly. The visitation time is flexible.

The next Volunteer Orientation Training in Grand Rapids will be on Jan 12, 19, 26, Feb 2 and 9, from 6 pm - 9 pm.
