Do you enjoy making people feel at home by serving coffee and goodies? Then we need your help! "Take Charge" is an educational and support group aimed at helping women whose lives have been affected by crime make better choices for the future and live healthier lives. The group meets at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (700 Ethel SE) on Thursday mornings. A volunteer is needed once a month to pick up light refreshments such as breads, fruit, and juice (cost reimbursed if requested), and to set up the coffee and goodies between 8:30 and 9:00 AM. Some volunteers enjoy baking the goodies, others buy prepared breakfast food. We need one-time or ongoing volunteers. Here are a few comments the women who attend the group have made: "It has broadened my thinking and helped me to get out of my self pity, to meet new people and feel less insecure." "Take Charge has connected me to resources that will help me to better my life in a positive way, and be there for my children." "I now realize that I'm not alone, that there are women out there with the same exact troubles or real similar. We can share ideas on how to keep our priorities straight and how not to get overwhelmed."
Volunteers need to have their own vehicle and be reliable. They complete a volunteer application with references and interview. Proof of valid driver's license and insurance needed. This opportunity is sponsored by: Criminal Justice Chaplaincy
