Zoo Divers Make a Splash

Get into the swim of things by becoming a John Ball Zoo Volunteer Diver! These volunteers dive into our Living Shores Aquarium tanks to clean and maintain the exhibit tanks. They also assist in preparing diets and feeding exhibit animals. In addition, volunteer divers clean and maintain the work areas, dive gear and related equipment as well as assist with other aquarium related projects as needed. Please note you must be already SCUBA certified to volunteer in this program. for more information and and application please visit www.johnballzoosociety.org.

Volunteer Divers must meet the following requirements: 21 years of age, SCUBA certified by a nationally recognized program, have at least 15 logged dives, able to lift 50 pounds, have a Dr. note certifying "fit for diving", and able to commit to volunteering one weekday from 1-4PM every other week. Some equipment is provided, but volunteers must be have their own 7mm wet suit, hood, bathing suit, mask, snorkle and boots. Other Training is provided.

Directions:

 John Ball Zoo is located on the west side of Grand Rapids, on the corner of Fulton Street and Valley. From downtown, take Fulton street west to Valley. There's easy access off of westbound 196 from Grandville/Jenison area at exit 75 (Lake Michigan Drive), keeping right as it diverges into Fulton Street near the entrance of the Zoo parking lot. Access from 131 South-bound to 196 East; use the Lane Street exit off 196 East. Turn left at Lane and continue to Fulton Street. Turn right (heading west) until the intersection of Fulton and Valley.
  Nearest Bus Stop: Fulton & Valley, 5 minute walk
