Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on October 13, 2009

The SIS Program matches pregnant and parenting young women with adult female volunteers. Volunteers meet weekly with their young mom to offer friendship and support with parenting and other life skills.

She is attending a new high school this year after living out of state for a few years. She is waiting to be matched to an adult female volunteer who can offer friendship and support, spend time together doing activities with her and her daughter, and encourage her in her role as a mother.

Volunteers must be adult women over age 21. College students younger than 21 may be considered. Volunteers must have a driver's license and their own vehicle.

This will be my first time volunteering.

I haven't volunteered yet but is looking forward to it. I'm a mother of 4 and was a single mother for 14 years. I'm a high school grad and have taken some college classes stopped because of children and has now re-entered as a full time student and working full-time with twins 15 months. I just feel like I should give back because I have been so blessed with everything I have and will have in the future.

during my high school year I volunteer to work with disabled kids.

During my 11th grade in high school. For the whole year I was assisting a student that is paralyzed from the neck. Helping others helped me understand others and feel for their needs, it made me stronger in standing up for people that are not able to speak up for themselves.
