History:
Aid to Women was birthed in 1983 when a group of Christians in the community saw a need to provide counseling that upholed the sanctity of life for women facing unplanned pregnancies. Throughout the ministry's 26-year history, Aid to Women has always had two primary goals: to help women choose life and to share the gospel of Jesus Christ in word and action. Accomplishing these goals has led to growth and change. Aid to Women expanded over the years to add life skills classses and material assistance, responding to the finding that the numer one reason women choose abortion is a lack of support. The ministry also added prevention services, teahcing sexual integrity in the community to help young people avoid starting down a path that could lead to abortion. Services expanded to include abortion-recovery classes to help women work through their grief, guilt and shame and experience freedom in God. The flood of 2008 was a turning point fo rAid to Women. Coming off a 25-year anniversary celebration, most of the physical representation of the ministry was wiped out. This led to a time of seeking hard after God for His vision of the ministry's future while continuing to provide services to clients from 5 different temporary sites in the city. The redesigned building makes better use of the space and provides a more confidential environment for pregnancy testing and options counseling. Clients often comment about the calm atmosphere and helpfulness of the staff and volunteers.
