Oakville Volunteer Foundation
The Oakville Volunteer Foundation is a volunteer effort to support rebuilding in areas of Elliot Township in Louisa County and Huron Township in Des Moines County affected by the flood of 2008.
Description:
The OVF seeks to bring together the financial, material, and volunteer assistance available to local residents in order to restore the sense of community that Oakville experienced prior to the 2008 flooding. The Foundation coordinates the volunteer effort and handles a limited amount of case management functions to ensure that resources are used as efficiently as possible. Individuals or groups that volunteer through the Foundation can expect to do heavy physical labor, including debris removal, gutting of homes, installation of wallboard, or skilled trades such as plumbing and electrical work under the supervision of professional laborors.
History:
The Oakville Volunteer Foundation was formed following the 2008 flooding. Its board is comprised of local residents and community members supported by advisory members from within and outside the community.
