Our mission is to rescue, shelter and provide long-term care to lost, homeless, abandoned companion animals— in order to give them an ideal quality of life, free from pain and suffering, with the possibility of adoption into a permanent, loving home.

Description:
Situated on 34 acres of fields and trees, adjacent to Jefferson County Park, Heavenly Pet is a no-kill animal shelter for dogs and cats housing up to 150 abandoned, stray, homeless pets at any one time. We provide food, shelter, veterinary care (including neutering and spaying) and a peaceful, nurturing environment.

The cat shelter is mostly cageless with access to large outside runs and simulates a home environment where cats and kittens can have maximum freedom and the security of a permanent home for as long as they need to stay.

The dog areas consist of large enclosed kennels where dogs have access to grassy exercise areas. In the summer they stay mostly outdoors with doghouses for sleeping; while in the colder weather they have indoor kennels with access to the outdoors.

We also have an active adoption center where we place pets into good, responsible homes.

History:
Heavenly Pet Sanctuary was incorporated in 2000 and is a tax exempt, non-profit Iowa Corporation.

Heavenly Pet took over the same location that originally housed the Noah's Ark shelter and kept most of the resident cats that lived there at that time. Laura Conti formally founder of Noah's Ark started Heavenly Pet after she and co-founder David Sykes separated.
