Siena/Francis House
The Siena/Francis House homeless shelter is directed toward a concern and care of the poor. Our mission is realized in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and clothing the needy. It extends beyond merely answering physical needs to the acceptance and affirmation of each person, to creating an atmosphere of hospitality and to providing purpose and meaning in the lives of people who struggle for survival.
Description:
The Siena/Francis House is Nebraska's largest shelter, providing food, shelter, and clothing to homeless men, women, and children. We provide shelter for approximately 375 persons each night, and serve approximately 875 meals each day. We also have the State's largest residential long-term addiction recovery program, our aptly-named "Miracles" Treatment Center, for those working to break the cycle of homelessness. We have a meal provider program that needs 13 volunteers to serve dinner every evening. We also have special events throughout the year that are in need of volunteers, as well.
History:
The Siena/Francis House was founded in 1975 in downtown Omaha, and was originally called the "Siena House of Hospitality", providing food, shelter, and clothing to homeless women and children. The organization later began serving homeless men, as well. Our addiction recovery program was added later, as a means to help homeless persons break their own peronal cycle of homelessness.
