	Governor's Volunteer Award Ceremonies Announced! The Governor’s Volunteer Award program was established in 1982 to honor and recognize volunteers for the commitment, service and time that they contribute to Iowa's government agencies and nonprofit organizations. Nearly 700 volunteers have been selected to receive 2009 Governor's Volunteer Awards. Regional recognition ceremonies will be held this summer in Marion, Storm Lake, Ottumwa, and Des Moines. Details GOVERNOR CULVER ANNOUNCES NEW AMERICORPS POSITIONS MAY 21, 2009 -- Governor Culver announced today the award of more than $4.4 million in AmeriCorps ARRA funds and education awards to support the placement of 378 AmeriCorps members within community-based organizations across Iowa. The announcements come on the heels of AmeriCorps Week, and the President’s signing of the Serve America Act, which will triple AmeriCorps membership nationally. Iowa VISTA is gearing up for the Summer Associate Program which runs 8—10 weeks between May 1st and August 31st (various start dates throughout the summer). Summer Associate VISTA members receive a modest living allowance of approximately $1,500 for an 8 week program and an end of service benefit of either a $1,000 Education Award or $200 monetary award for successful completion of the program.
