Extraordinary Volunteers Have A Chance To Win $1,000!
RSS XML FeedBackground Active Aug 26, 2009 to Sep 1, 2009

The Extra Mile America Tour is looking for extraordinary volunteers and representatives of nonprofit organizations in the Des Moines, Iowa area. Extra Mile America is holding interviews at United Way of Central Iowa on Monday, August 31st, and all of the individuals we meet with will be featured on our website and have a chance to win one of ten $1,000 cash prizes.

The Extra Mile America Tour (www.ExtraMileAmerica.com) is a unique project that is honoring local heroes, igniting volunteerism, and recognizing the hard work of individuals and organizations who go the extra mile to make a difference in their community - and in the world. To honor those who go the extra mile, motivator and three-time author Shawn Anderson is biking across the country (he started in San Francisco on July 21st and will end in Boston on October 21st), holding interviews with selected volunteers and representatives of organizations in 21 cities. He will be asking all of them, "What are you doing to go the extra mile?"

At the end of the tour, TEN outstanding individuals will receive the "Extra Mile American Award" and $1,000 cash. Shawn will also be writing a book about the inspiring stories he heard along the way. We are thrilled to have the support of several members of Congress (Doris Matsui, Barbara Lee, and Lynn Woolsey), local mayors (San Francisco, Sacramento, Oakland, Reno, and Salt Lake City), and state and city representatives (www.extramileamerica.com/testimonials). Our great hope is that by shining a light on local heroes and ordinary people doing extraordinary things, we can encourage and inspire others to go the extra mile as well.

If you are interested in meeting with Shawn Anderson to share more information about the great work your organization does, please contact Annika Ihnat at Annika@ExtraMileAmerica.com or (310) 619 3404.

Thank you, and we look forward to hearing your story!
