Mission Statement We are an ecumenical, Christian housing ministry that exists to:provide simple decent housing for low income families; make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action;and bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ throughout West Central Minnesota
Description: Habitat's goal is to provide simple, decent, and affordable homes to all families who are living in sub-standard housing. Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed with affordable, no-interest mortgages. Homeowner families invest hundreds of hours of their own labor in the completion of Habitat homes; a single person provides 200 hours and a couple 500 hours of sweat equity. Included in this is attending mandatory homeowners classes.
History: Habitat for Humanity of West Central Minnesota was incorporated in 1993. The founding Kandiyohi County has been joined by Chippewa, Renville, Meeker and Swift Counties. As of 2008 the affiliate has housed 53 families in the five county area. In 2008-9 seven families will be able to purchase simple, decent, and affordable homes with a no-interest mortgage.
