Mentoring is a fun and rewarding opportunity for volunteers 16 and older. Mentors serve as role models for youth ages 6-16 in our community. Mentoring is also an important piece of improving our community's relationship with youth. The YMCA Lend a Hand Mentor program matches mentors with mentees of the same gender.

For safety purposes, background and reference checks are performed on each mentor applicant. Each mentor is then thoroughly trained. After the training, the mentor can select a child to mentor from the "Youth Profile List", which lists the youth's age, city, gender, ethnicity, interests, and hobbies. The program currently has 32 deserving youth, 22 boys and 10 girls. To become a mentor, you must have an interest in youth, have a valid driver's license, and proof of insurance. The minimum commitment to the program is four hours a month for 12 months.
