Description:
Whitfield-Murray Historical Society, housed at the beautiful Crown Gardens and Archives building at 715 Chattanooga Avenue in Dalton, seeks to preserve and document the history of Whitfield and Murray County, Georgia. The historical society owns several historic properties, including Hamilton House, the oldest brick home in Dalton; Blunt House, built by Dalton's first mayor and postmaster; Dug Gap Battle Park, a historic Civil War site, in Dalton; Chatsworth Depot; and the historic Wright Hotel in Chatsworth. It also maintains the Spring Place Methodist Church Museum. The historical society works with other community groups and agencies to assist in preserving other historic properties, as well. In addition to historic properties, the historical society maintains a library of photographs, maps and books on county and family history. We rely on the support and volunteerism of community members like you!
