Through a variety of boards and commissions, established by the City of Bloomington, citizens can provide input on the policies that shape their government and their city. There are currently more than 30 boards and commissions that advise the Mayor and City Council on a vast array of issues.
Board members and commissioners generally receive no financial compensation, but the payoff is great. Members meet other residents with similar interests, they learn about the City, and they help shape the future of Bloomington! Being on a board or commission does require a significant personal commitment, however, so applicants should consider their ability to commit their time and personal energy before applying.
If you are interested in serving on a board or commission, please submit a application and resume to city clerk's office. We will keep the application on file for one year so your application will be viewed if a position opens up.
Applications for City Boards and Commissions are now being accepted.
Immediate openings include:
- Bloomington Digital Underground Advisory Committee
- Citizen Advisory for CDBG Funding
- Historic Preservation Commission
- Housing Quality Appeals Board Housing Trust Fund Board of Directors (Requires representation from one of 4 areas—banking, low income, not for profit housing, social services)
- Traffic Commission
- Urban Enterprise Association (Requires residency within the zone and registered Democrat)
For a complete list and description of Boards and Commissions visit www.bloomington.in.gov/boards.
The City Boards and Commissions are citizen staffed and operated, and serve to advise the Common Council and the Administration on issues affecting Bloomington. Qualifications for applicants require residence within the city's corporation limits.
To find out more about a specific board or commission, please visit the individual websites listed on the City website. As board and commission meetings are open to the public, potential applicants are encouraged to sit in on monthly meetings.
