Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. School Group Guides work directly with school groups to enhance the field trip experience. Guides greet and orient classes, use interactive methods to introduce exhibits, usher planetarium and theatre shows, and generally act as a liaison between the group and the center. For those interested in working with youth, this is one of the most hands-on and rewarding volunteer roles at Chabot. You can be the catalyst that sparks a child’s imagination.
•Act as a Chabot Ambassador for school group: typical groups are 3rd-6th grade with occasional classes of older students.
•Orient school groups to their day at the center (expectations, itinerary, behavior)
•Introduce exhibits and science content through questions, props and conversation
•Where appropriate, help students engage in and focus on the exhibit by circulating through exhibit modeling visitor interaction and answering questions
•If itinerary includes visiting observatories, coordinate visit with daytime telescope volunteers
•Usher Planetarium and theatre shows as needed
Visit our website to RSVP for our next adult orientation meeting.
