The DeKalb County Youth Service Bureau, Inc (YSB) assists youth as they build healthy lives and relationships with their families, friends and communities. YSB recognizes and nurtures the value of networking with other community resources to solve youth social problems and develop programs designed to meet the needs of youth and the community.
Description:
YSB offers counseling for youth ages 8 – 18 and their families. These services may be requested by youth or their parents. They also may be the result of a referral by other sources such as schools, police or the juvenile court system. Therapists at YSB are skilled in assessing the needs of families as well as recognizing strengths. The staff works with youth and their families to establish positive alternatives to negative or destructive behaviors and uses community resources when appropriate. YSB has over 12 programs for youth including emotion management, girls’ empowerment, crisis intervention and many others.
History:
The YSB was founded in 1971 in DeKalb, Illinois. It is one of the oldest Youth Service Bureaus in Illinois. The original purpose of YSB was to develop societal supports which will enable youth to grow into and assume responsible roles in community life.
