Description:
Girl Scouts – Sybaquay Council serves over 10,000 girls ages 5–17 years of age residing in McHenry County and parts of Cook, DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Lake and La Salle counties. Based on the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law, girls participate in a variety of fun, age-specific program activities that encourage leadership and develop self-esteem, while helping them to discover their personal best and prepare for a positive future. This cycle of activities is directly tied to specific outcomes such as: valuing cultural diversity and individual uniqueness; educating and inspiring other; leadership development; and making a difference through community service and action.
History:
Girl Scouts – Sybaquay Council, headquartered in Elgin, was first chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA in 1957. Girl Scouts of the USA, headquartered in New York. Founded in 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scouts’ membership has grown from 18 members in Savannah, Georgia, to 3.7 million members throughout the United States, including U.S. territories, and in more than 90 countries through USA Girl Scouts Overseas.
