Conexión Comunidad - IL - DeKalb

Conexión Comunidad provides connections between the Latino community and the community-at-large by offering information, education, resources and classes. We hope to serve as a bridge between the two communities and foster understanding and assistance for both.

Description:
Serving children has always been one of our primary goals. The homework program offered four days a week after school for students from Littlejohn is our longest continuous program. NIU Honors students assist the students with their homework and we also have a computer lab with 8 computers for them to use. Kishwaukee College also offers ESL and English on Computers classes and Rock Valley College offers Citizenship classes. We are always looking for opportunities to partner with organizations to assist the community.

History:
Conexión Comunidad was started by a group of dedicated Latinos in 2001 who want to help their community. They were able to purchase a building at 637 N. 11th and return it to it's original purpose which was as a community center. The building serves as the home base of Conexión. The organization is a 501-c-3 and is run of a Board of Directors with four officers.
