Agency Details:
The National MS Society- Greater Illinois Chapter
We mobilize people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS.
Description:
Since its inception, the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society has excelled in serving the Illinois MS community. Last fiscal year, in addition to raising $8.7 million, we directly served over 10,000 clients with our educational programs, family programs, support services, direct financial assistance program, and advocacy efforts. We did all this with remarkable efficiency – 87 cents of every dollar directly supported our mission, earning us an impressive three star Charity Navigator rating. Over half of our expenses went into supporting the implementation of Illinois MS programs, while about 30% went to national programs and research.
History:
The National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society is moving to mobilize the millions of people who want to do something about MS Now! Founded in 1952, the Greater Illinois Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society serves the approximately 20,000 people living with MS and their families within Illinois. The Chapter covers a 73-county territory, starting at the Wisconsin-Illinois border and extending south through the northern and central areas of the state. Our mission is to create a world free of MS by moving MS research forward, educating and supporting those affected by MS, providing information to the general public and medical professionals about the disease, and advocating for policies that would improve the quality of life for people living with MS.
