Agency Details:
YWCA of Lancaster
The YWCA of Lancaster gives highest priority to services that enable women and girls to reach their full potential, enrich the quality of their lives, and to shape a new society free from sexism and racism. The YWCA of Lancaster strives to broaden its membership and leadership so that women and girls from diverse backgrounds might work together toward fulfillment of our purpose: "peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all people".
Description:
Volunteer Services for the YWCA of Lancaster empowers women and girls from diverse backgrounds to reach their full professional potential. This is done by giving them responsibility as well as resume' building experiences through the many volunteer opportunities at the YWCA. At the same time volunteers enrich their own lives by empowering the YWCA clientele through facilitating or co-facilitating groups, counseling on the 24 hour sexual assault crisis line, working with the children in the daycare program or volunteering for the board and/or committees - just to name a few. Dr. Dorothy Height, President and CEO of the National Council of Negro Women said that "without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop..."
