Description:
We are a Church & Community Ministry project of the General Board of Global Ministries. We partner with local U.M. churches and social service agencies in an effort to promote outreach ministries to benefit those in poverty and despair. We currently sponsor several programs: Kids' Nights at St. Paul's UMC (Mondays) and Otterbein UMC (Thursdays); Beyond Kids' Night at St. Paul's UMC (for youth); Nutrition Education Classes at various churches (we provide child care for student's children); a Power Packs Project for children who aren't getting enough to eat over the weekends; a Professional Clothing Bank; a School Uniform Clothing Bank; a Teen Parent Support Group; and contemporary worship services for ex-convicts called X-Offenders' Church (XOC) held at Ross Street UMC on Friday evenings from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Otterbein UMC provides a Community Meal at no cost on the First Friday of every month at 6:00 p.m.
History:
LUMINA began in the fall of 1993 as the outreach ministries of St. Paul's UMC in Lancaster, with a weekly children's ministry, a food bank and emergency assistance. We now oversee 12 program ministries and coordinate the outreach efforts of 75 United Methodist churches in Lancaster County.

Overall Experience

Organized, sincere, spiritually enriching.

Volunteering on an occasional basis with X-Offenders' Church. I find the congregation to be diverse, appreciative of whatever we do for them, and eager to return love in the spirit of Christian community. I always leave with the feeling that, together, we have truly worshiped and found God in the ordinary matters of life. posted by mtsofan on July 8, 2006 |
