The Lancaster County Career & Technology Center has committed itself to prepare high school students and adults to become academically competent, occupationally proficient for employment and capable of continuous learning.

Description:
The Lancaster County Career & Technology Center is sponsored by the 16 public schools in Lancaster County. LCCTC offers approximately 50 programs for individuals interested in learning a career, seeking to upgrade skills or planning a job change. Each year, more than 1500 high school students and adults attend the career programs at one of the three LCCTC campuses.

LCCTC campuses are located in Brownstown, Mount Joy and Willow Street. Every Campus houses two different career areas, each focusing on a different area of related careers. The Brownstown Campus is home to the Constructions Technologies Center and the Visual Communication Center. The Mount Joy Campus houses the Culinary Arts Center and the Manufacturing Technologies Center. The Willow Street Campus is home to the Health Careers Center and the Transportation Technologies Center.

Also found at each campus, and at off-site classrooms, are core programs that comprise the Consumer Services Center, as well as, the Introduction to Health Careers and the Applied Technology programs. In addition the LCCTC has half day cluster programs that match up with the centers. These cluster programs are located at each of the three campuses.

History:
The Lancaster County Career & Technology Center began operating in 1970. At that time the school was known as the Lancaster County Area Vocational Technical School. The LCCTC serves as the primary provider of career and technical education for the county of Lancaster. The LCCTC since its beginning has been very active in the areas of incumbent worker training, retraining of dislocated worker, workforce development projects and assisting employers secure job training funds.

Initially the LCCTC operated on a half day about model with all programs offered at all three campuses. In the 1980's the LCCTC changed to a seniors only model. However, beginning in the 1990's the LCCTC redesigned its program of study and modernized the facilities, equipment and programs. The LCCTC established six centers on its three campuses, articulated programs with regional colleges and adopted nationally recognized skills standards curriculum. The result proved to be an attractive educational opportunity of high school students seeking career education, college preparation and employment.
Enrollment of students grew from less than 900 to over 1500 student per year.

The LCCTC operates what is believed to be the largest Practical Nursing Program in the state of Pennsylvania. The Practical Nursing Program began in 1958 under the auspices of the School District of Lancaster. In July of 1970 the program was transferred to the LCCTC. Since that time the program continued to grow to meet the need of Lancaster County employers and in 2003 the program enrolled 210 students and graduated 181.

In addition, the school is actively involved with the community. Some of the organizations the LCCTC has worked closely with include, The United Way of Lancaster County, The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Building Industry Association of Lancaster County, the Keystone Chapter of the Associated Builder and Contractors, Lancaster County government, state government, local municipal governments and area school districts. The LCCTC as worked with a variety of community based organizations such as The Spanish America Civic Association, the Community Action Program of Lancaster County, Urban League,YWCA, YMCA and many other non profit organizations.

The LCCTC works closely with private industry. Though it's Workforce Development Institute, Cooperative Education programs, and Occupational Advisory Committees, the LCCTC provides services to meet the needs of several hundred employers on an annual basis. All of this work is in an effort to aid the high school students and adult student to be come academically competent, occupationally proficient for employment and capable of continuous learning.
