United Zion Retirement Community (UZRC)

Our mission is to provide superior quality services to the aging, based on Christian principles, in a loving and caring community encouraging independence, promoting wellness and preserving human dignity.

Description:
We are a continuing care community with cottages, apartments, personal care and nursing care. Residents are encouraged to live as independently as possible and choose how to use their leisure time. We strive to meet our residents' physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs in a home-like setting. Families and friends are welcome to visit and bring pets, too. It truly is a place where loving and caring walk hand in hand.

The Nursing Care component of UZRC has gotten a lot of national recognition. "Consumer Reports" magazine reviewed nursing homes throughout the United States (www.ConsumerReports.com)(September 2006). Of 728 nursing homes in Pennsylvania, only 29 were recommended to consumers. UZRC was one of those recommended.

Member of the Family, a national referral service for senior citizens needing home health, in-home care, hospice, nursing care and other services in the United States recently created a state by state nursing home Honor Roll. Of 728 nursing homes in Pennsylvania, only 6 made that Honor Roll. UZRC was one of those on the Honor Roll (www.memberofthefamily.net, click on Honor Roll, click on PA).

History:
Over 100 years ago United Zion Home started as a home for the homeless. The nursing unit and personal care units were rebuilt and cottages and apartments were added in the last 10 years and changed its name to United Zion Retirement Community.
