Agency Details:
Main Street Mount Joy
Main Street Mount Joy (MSMJ) is a catalyst in the effort to revitalize downtown Mount Joy. Our mission is to preserve and promote what is unique about downtown Mount Joy for the benefit of businesses, residents and visitors.
Description:
Main Street Mount Joy (MSMJ) is a collaborative effort involving the Borough of Mount Joy, the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce, private individuals and business owners. MSMJ is based on a model established by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The work of the organization is divided into four committees: Design, Economic Restructuring, Promotions, and Organization. Each committee is run by volunteers from the community. Only one full time staff person is employed. MSMJ works to create an inviting streetscape that emphasizes a sense of place and highlights the unique assets and historic character of downtown Mount Joy, to strengthen the economic base of downtown Mount Joy through business retention, recruitment, property intervention, and information gathering, and to promote downtown Mount Joy as the community’s social, cultural, and economic center.
History:
Incorporated in June 2003, MSMJ grew out of an existing revitalization program known as REACH - Renewal, Enhancement and Advancement of the Community through its Heritage. The organizations have since merged into one.
