Assets Lancaster is dedicated to serving low and moderate income persons in Lancaster County with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, helping them succeed in realizing their dreams of self-employment and economic independence. Assets Lancaster is deeply committed to community building, the establishment and promotion of economic and social justice and opportunity.
Description:
A 13 week "Business Design and Management Course" is offered 3 times per year and once in Spanish. Major areas of instruction include: personal assessment, marketing, financial issues, legal and tax issues, management and many others. Nurture and Incubator environment offering, support services i.e copier, fax machine, computers; resources available i.e. books, personal instruction; networking for current students and graduates of the Assets program the Alumni Business Referral and the Alumni Community. Our trainers are local business or professional persons. Mentoring: On going, one-on-one support is available for participants through volunteers and other business professionals. Graduates and mentors meet monthly and have weekly phone contact over a six-month period.
History:
ASSETS was founded by Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA), professional people who seek to integrate values and business principles in their daily lives. They address the needs of the disadvantaged through economic development in North America and in low-income countries around the world. ASSETS Lancaster is a non-profit corporation and has a Board of Directors consisting of 12 business and community leaders. ASSETS is funded by Community Development Block Grants from the City of Lancaster and Lancaster County, corporate and foundation grants, individual contributions and program fees, and Federal Funding.
