Clare House, Inc.
Clare House serves homeless women and children by providing a temporary home in a caring environment, life-skills programs and aftercare support leading to self-sufficiency.
Description:
Clare House is a transitional shelter facility offering homeless women and children a 90-120 day stay and intensive case-management services. The program operates from two row homes in Lancaster city and can accommodate ten adults and up to fifteen children. In addition, Clare House provides services, advocacy and assistance for one year after program completion.
History:
Clare House began over twenty five years ago as a mission of a local Catholic diocese to provide shelter for homeless women and children. The shelter was named after St. Clare, a Franciscan nun. In 1985, Clare House was recognized as its own non-profit corporation and in 1995 became a member agency of the United Way of Lancaster County. Currently, Clare House operates under the direction of a governing Board of Directors and employs a small staff.
