There is no finish line until we find a cure!

The Relay for Life is the American Cancer Society's signature event. It is a team fundraiser for remembering those lost to Cancer. It is also a celebration for those who have survived. For the newly diagnosed, Relay offers a chance to meet someone who has survived the same type of Cancer. For the Cancer patient in treatment, Relay provides an opportunity to share with others. For the long-term survivor, Relay brings recognition of their struggle and the end to trying time in life. One of my reasons to Relay is selfish. I Relay because it’s a fun event. Ten years ago, my friend, Christine, needed some people to fill in the gaps in the walker’s schedules. I didn’t know what to expect other than some good exercise. Then I found out that the Relay is like a 24-hour party filled with good food, good friends, and good music. Yet another selfish reason is that Cancer doesn’t run in my family it gallops! Breast, colon, oral, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Multiple Myeloma - a real smorgasbord of the disease. So chances are that I’ll be one of those purple t-shirt wearing survivors at the Relay in the next 10 to 20 years. But the longer I’ve worked with the American Cancer Society, as a participant, a team captain and (for the last 3 years) as the event chair, the more I realize that I Relay to change the future. I hope that through my efforts, no others in my family nor any of you reading this will never have to hear those 3 dreaded words “you have Cancer”. Here's the punch line: please help me change the future by joining the fight against Cancer thru the Relay for Life. Yeah, I'm asking, no, begging for your help. I give countless hours of my life for this cause. I know that sounds tough for a middle-aged mom like me, but it’s not nearly as tough as what Cancer patients go through every day. Your involvement with the Relay for Life will help with Cancer research, patient services, for lobbying our government officials to support affordable treatment and for educational programs to teach that Cancer is not only curable but preventable. So help me out here! Get involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Thanks in advance for your support!
