Volunteers are trained to assist the staff assistants with a specific program. Their task is to encourage the residents to accomplish as much as they can and assist only when needed. Transporting to the activity area is always involved. The assistance of volunteers is vital to this program as each resident will get more attention and not have to wait until another resident has finished. This makes them feel special and a sense of accomplishment which is encouraging. Morning activities are scheduled at 10:30am and usually over at 11:30 am, afternoons are scheduled at 2:00 to 3:30 pm.
Activities consist of craft projects, Wii games, picnics on the patio and sometimes outside the facility at a park, bird visits, ball games, exercises, volleyball, cooking classes, reading and discussion groups.
As volunteers become more familiar with the residents and their interests, visiting with some residents can be a very satisfying part of the day after the program is over.

Volunteers are asked to come in for am interview and a general orientation about the organization. Then when they have been assigned, the supervisor of their activity completes an orientation regarding their assignment.Volunteers are requested to be polite, respectful and honest and treat the residents kindly.
