Volunteer Opportunity Details:

On Monday, December 7, 2009, from 6 – 9 pm, the Saucon Valley Conservancy will host its Annual Holiday Gathering and Artists’ Reception for the Bethlehem Palette Club Plein Air Group at the historic Heller Homestead located at 1890-92 Friedensville Road (Water Street) in Lower Saucon Township. [Snow Date: Tuesday, December 8]. Refreshments will be served. Acoustic guitar holiday music by John Samuels The reception is free and open to the public. The Bethlehem Palette Club Plein Air Group Exhibit runs Saturday, November 7 through Sunday, January 31, 2010, The Heller Homestead Art Gallery and Antiques & Collectibles gift shop is open weekends from 1 pm – 4 pm. (Sundays, 12 to 3 pm, May - November)

Saucon Valley’s Girl Scouts, dressed in vintage clothing, from Senior Troop 8948 and Cadette Troop 8595, will provide tours and take visitors on a “Journey through Time ~ Room by Room” at the Homestead. Rooms with period furnishings will offer guests a chance to experience the past as they step back in time to see treasures from a bygone era. The Widow’s House has three rooms to view representing the 1850s through the 1900s, and features a beehive oven in the kitchen. The Heller House offers a 1950s Kitchen, a 1930s Living Room, a 1880s through 1900s Bedroom dedicated to Heller descendant Perma Heller Bokan, and a 1880s Victorian Parlor in memory of Alice Morris. Decorated Christmas trees will be on display reflecting the progression of ornamentation available to German families through the years.
