Action Alliance For Children

Agency Details:

Action Alliance For Children

We provide information, education, and inspiration to people who work directly with young children and families: parents, child care providers, and those who work with and educate them. Our goal is to support this constituency in creating positive change--in their direct work with children, in their communities, and in public policy--to build a society based on care, respect, and promotion of the healthy development of every child.

Description:
We publish the bimonthly, bilingual Children's Advocate/Defensor de los Ninos newsmagazine, which covers a wide range of issues affecting young children and their families. We distribute about 23,000 copies through child care resource and referral agencies, child care centers, community college early childhood development departments, family resource centers, and other agencies working directly with parents and child care providers. We also maintain the trilingual (including Chinese) www.4children.org web site, which receives at least 80,000 hits a month and contains a treasury of articles on a wide range of children's issues. And we send out a monthly email bulletin (English only).

History:
Our organization began as part of the grassroots child care resource and referral movement in the early 70s. In the late 70s, when child care resource and referral agencies began to receive state funding, our organization specialized in providing information on a wide range of children's issues to the child care community and the public. In addition to publishing the Children's Advocate, in the past we have held press events, conferences, trainings, and more. In the last four years we have focused on our core program of publishing materials for parents, child care providers, and those who work with them.
