Our mission is to be the premiere provider of palliative and hospice services for patients and their caregivers needing care and support during the final stage of life. We are dedicated to promoting wellness at the end of life, as well as preventing and treating distressing symptoms or conditions that might otherwise threaten the quality of life for our patients and families.

Description:
Hospice By The Bay is a non-profit organization, licensed as a home health agency and certified by Medicare. Our teams of professionals work hard to meet the unique medical, practical, spiritual and emotional needs of each patient and family. Hospice By The Bay has more than 250 staff members and more than 700 volunteers in Marin, San Francisco, Northern San Mateo and Sonoma counties, all committed to our mission of providing compassionate hospice and palliative care.

History:
Hospice By The Bay is proud of its rich history as the second hospice in the United States and the first on the West Coast. It was established in the early 1970s as Hospice of Marin by Dr. William Lamers, Jr., Reverend John Thornton, and Barbara Hill Gonce and other community volunteers, and officially incorporated in March 1975. Hospice's national leadership in the hospice care movement and its educational programs helped develop many of the current hospice programs around the country. Due to growing community support and increasing requests for care from patients and families, in 2006 the agency changed its name to Hospice By The Bay to reflect its regional service area of Marin, San Francisco, Northern San Mateo and Sonoma counties. Hospice By The Bay continues to adhere to the core belief of the hospice and palliative care movement — that individuals and families coping with life-limiting illness should be cared for compassionately, minimizing pain and suffering for patients at the end of life. Hospice By The Bay remains at the vanguard of the hospice industry and a premier, regional provider of end-of-life care.
