At Áegis, it’s not about aging, it’s about living. Our programs aren’t just about physical needs; they focus on our residents leading full and complete lives. Each Áegis community has its own Activities Director, whose only job is to find new social, recreational and cultural activities for our residents. Resident profiles help these Activities Directors understand each resident’s interests and hobbies as a basis for choosing activities.
Áegis also has programming designed for our residents with cognitive impairments. These activities center on the special needs of seniors living with dementia. Each activity works to help our residents feel comfortable and engaged. Reminiscing activities keep residents involved, recreate the familiarity of home and provide the comfort of happy memories.
History:
Áegis was co-founded in 1997 by CEO/President Dwayne Clark and Bill Gallaher. Dwayne honed his operations expertise as Director of Operations for Leisure Care, and then as Executive Vice President at Sunrise Assisted Living. Bill brought an extensive background in senior housing construction. Today, ÁegisLiving is one of the most admired and emulated companies in the industry.
When he opened Áegis, Dwayne pioneered unique ideas like regular massage therapy to improve circulation of residents, 1940s-era cars parked at the communities that residents can “drive,” and video game consoles to entertain the grandkids. Like so many others, they came from his “Box of Frustrated Ideas,” an accordion file where ideas were kept until Dwayne had his own company and could create what he wanted. That has made his residents very happy.
Aegis of San Rafael has been open now for three years and it's community continues to grow.
