Last year, through Marriott’s “Spirit To Serve Our Communities” program, participating hotels had the opportunity to make charitable contributions of the replaced bed linens, including sheets, bedspreads, blankets and pillows to people and families in need. Marriott, on behalf of its owners and franchisees, worked with the United Way of America and Gifts in Kind International to identify nonprofits serving local communities, as well as the tsunami-affected region of Southeast Asia. Nonprofit organizations interested in receiving a Marriott bedding donation linked to a dedicated site set up for them, courtesy of United Way of America's online tool, United eWay, to access linens from participating Marriott hotels as they became available throughout the year. The Product Connections solution through United eWay can be utilized by nonprofit agencies who wish to list items they need from the community, along with specific product requirement data and contact information for delivery or pick-up. The solution also is used effectively by corporations who have products to donate and need an organized method to identify suitable recipient organizations, from a geographic, programmatic or need perspective. Product Connections can also be used within a corporate setting to facilitate employee-recommended product donations to not-for-profit organizations. The solution provides for multiple users and administrators to allow a broad variety of users groups to participate, with a full complement of reporting, all available online.
