Description:
The Food Bank rescues food from the food industry that would otherwise go to waste and solicits food donations from a variety of other sources. Last year we distributed 6 million pounds of food to our non-profit member agencies. We are also the regional distributor of USDA commodities and the Massachusetts Emergency Food Assistance Program (MEFAP).

History:
Founded in 1982, The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts is a 501(c)(3) organization and a member of America's Second Harvest, a national network of 200 regional food banks. We are a central clearing house of food from the food industry, accepting donated food by the truckload and distributing it to 396 hundred smaller, independent programs serving people in need.

From Amherst: Take Route 116 to Whately. Take left onto Routes 5 & 10 South for about 4 miles. From Amherst Center: Take Route 9, crossing over the Coolidge Bridge. Take right after the bridge onto Damon Road.
