Springfield School Volunteers

The Mission of Springfield School Volunteers is to promote and facilitate learning-focused community involvement in support of the Springfield Public Schools' goal of ensuring that every child attain a high level of academic achievement in a safe and supportive environment.

Description:
Springfield School Volunteers is a non-profit organization dedicated for 40 years to marshalling the resources of the community to benefit the teachers, principals and children of the Springfield Public Schools. In alignment with Step Up Springfield, our focus is to provide academic support for students in grades k-12 in the areas of math and English Language Arts to promote academic proficiency among Springfield Public School students.

History:
From its very modest beginning in 1969, when five women responded to a call to assist with the organizing of the Tapley School library, Springfield School Volunteers has hand-in-hand with the Springfield Public Schools to meet the needs of the staff and students in the city's schools. Today, in its greatly expanded role, Springfield School Volunteers, in alignment with Step Up Springfield, helps to put the "public" back in the Public Education. Through vigorous and continuous community outreach, each year SSV is able to secure resources for the Springfield Public Schools, including almost 3,000 volunteers, plus material and financial resources.
