Last updated on August 31, 2009

North Central Charter Essential School (NCCES) is a grade 7-12, public school where students are known personally, challenged intellectually, and expected to participate actively in their learning. Guided by its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness, the school seeks to send graduates into the world who think for themselves, care about others and act creatively and responsibly. NCCES students come from 30 communities across North Central Massachusetts and cross socio-economic, cultural, geographic boundaries and include students of all learning abilities.

About the Commonwealth Corps
The mission of the Commonwealth Corps is to engage Massachusetts residents of all ages and backgrounds in direct service to rebuild communities and address unmet community needs. The Corps provides opportunities for skill building, leadership development and encourages and enhances a lifelong civic vocation for Corps members. Corps members provide direct service, build capacity, and recruit, organize and mobilize additional volunteers, thus building a grassroots movement of volunteers dedicated to service.

NCCES will recruit two part-time and four flex-time Academic Coach Corps Members. The Academic Coach Corps is designed for individuals with an interest in education and the opportunity to work closely with students who need 1-on-1 or small group attention in the subject areas of Math and English Language Arts. Each Academic Coach will work with Teachers, Administrators and the Commonwealth Corps to determine which students need the most help and will then work with the assigned students on a 2 day a week basis in NCCES’s High School Prep program, which provides focused instruction for students who need additional support and practice with fundamental Math and English Language Arts skills. This role requires a passion for education and a willingness to commit to a 9-month, flex-time position (400 hours from September 2009 through June 2010). Retired Math and English Language Arts teachers are particularly encouraged to apply.
