Purpose of the Position:
Framingham Public Schools' 21st Century afterschool and summer programs help level the playing field for low income and minority youth who may struggle to keep pace with peers who have more resources. We need your help so our students can achieve even more. Volunteers make a minimum six week commitment to work the same day each week for one hour with our middle school students or 1.5 hours with our elementary students.

Regular Duties:
Aides: Volunteer Aides support our classroom teachers by providing one-to-one and small group support to encourage students to stretch, experiment, learn from mistakes, and stay on task. Aides establish a closer relationship with one to three students, encourage conversation, offer praise, help with snack and homework, and/or support students' participation in enrichment club activities. Our students thrive with aide support, and aides have enjoyed the students’ excitement and appreciation.

Hours:
This fall, our afterschool programs run Monday-Thursday, begin on October 5th, and end on January 21st. Our spring activities run February 22-May 20th. Four week summer sessions usually run during the month of July.

Middle School Hours:
Cameron: 3:15-4:15pm: Homework Zone and snack; 4:15-5:15: Clubs Fuller and Walsh: 2:30-3:30: Homework Zone and snack; 3:30-4:30: Clubs

Woodrow Wilson Elementary School Hours:
3:00-4:30: Block A and snack
4:30-6pm: Block B and parent pick up
Students may participate in a club or Homework Zone during either Block A or B.

Training:
A brief training will be provided at the time of interview with the Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteers must be prompt and consistent, enjoy working with youth, be patient and have a good sense of humor. We request that you fill out an application, provide two references and submit a CORI (criminal background check, required by law for all personnel who work with children under the age of 18).
