As a social service agency, our mission is to provide the best learning opportunities in Maine for at-risk youth, the immigrant community, and low-income families. We are consistently working to enhance our programs and provide an environment that is conducive to both personal and professional growth within the community. The programs we offer provide opportunities that would otherwise not be available.

Description:
LearningWorks serves the community through our various programs: Youth Building Alternatives, Alternatives to Detention, English Language Program, Afterschool Program, Resource Center, and Low-Income Housing. Volunteers are integral to each of our programs as they provide compassion, creativity and unique talents. Discover job opportunities available while gaining valuable experience!

History:
Our organization started in 1967 as Portland West, a grassroots neighborhood advocacy movement to protect the working people of Portland's west end. Through the years, the organization has evolved, grown, and adapted by creating and enhancing its programs to better serve the changing needs of neighborhood residents and the community as a whole. This past summer, Portland West became LearningWorks to reflect this evolution from providing service to the residents of one neighborhood to providing service to customers across the greater Portland area.
