Rape Response Services

The mission of Rape Response Services is to offer hope, understanding, support and advocacy to victims of sexual assault and their significant others, and to educate the communities of Penobscot and Piscataquis counties about all aspects of this violent crime.

Description:
Rape Response Services is one of ten non-profit agencies in Maine whose sole purpose is to provide services and support for anyone affected by any form of sexual assault. Services include a confidential, 24-hour, toll-free hotline(1-800-310-0000)staffed by trained volunteers. Support groups with trained co-facilitators are also offered. Community education includes programs for schools, clubs, organizations and businesses to promote awareness and prevention.

History:
Rape Response Services was established in 1988 to serve the counties of Penobscot and Piscataquis. The work that this agency does could not be accomplished without our volunteers, some of whom have been involved for more than ten years. The Janet Badger Volunteer Award is an annual recognition of this commitment. Financial support is provided by the Maine Department of Health & Human Services, the United Way of Eastern Maine, and by fund-raising events and donations.

It is very rewarding and fulfilling...
Volunteering at Rape Response Services is great. The people are very friendly and easy to talk to. Since this is my first time volunteering and I have enjoyed being a part of cthis agency so much that I am anxious to volunteer at other agencies as well. I would definately recommend this agency to anyone who is looking at doing some volunteering at a very rewarding place!:)
