Bangor Area Visiting Nurses/Hospice of Eastern Maine works to provide the highest standard of home care to the people in our communities, always treating them with dignity, compassion and respect.
Description:
BAVN and HOEM provide nurses, home health aides, physical, occupational, and speech therapists, medical social workers and volunteers and bereavement support for our hospice patients and families. Each year we help approximately 100 Bangor Area Homeless Shelter residents through our free nursing program, located at the shelter. In addition, we annually provide approximately 100 children and adults with grief support services through our Pathfinders: Support for grieving children program. Last year our caring staff drove 192,476 miles to provide16,256 visits to 849 patients and their families. Nationally recognized as a HomeCare Elite recipient in 2006, 2007 and 2008, Bangor Area Visiting Nurses is part of the Eastern Maine HomeCare Family, and a member of EMHS. BAVN works to ensure the highest quality home care and hospice is available to all who need it in its 40 town coverage area.
History:
The 2008, 2 Those Who Care Agency of Distinction, Bangor Area Visiting Nurses was founded in 1913 and is celebrating 96 years of service to the community. Although home care and hospice services are paid for by public and private sources, or directly by patients and their families, tax-exempt donations from individuals, businesses and towns help cover the costs of care provided to the uninsured or underinsured.
