Presenter for Youth Multi-cultural Program

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on November 20, 2009

The Center for Grieving Children's mission is to provide loving support to grieving children, teens, families and the community through peer support, outreach, and education. We honor and encourage the safe expression of grief and loss. We provide a loving community to foster the discovery and development of each child's own resiliency and emotional well-being.

Currently we are looking for volunteers to share cultural or expressive experiences with children in our Multi-Cultural Program. The program is a peer support format designed for children who have resettled in Portland from war torn countries. Providing them with an opportunity to express their feelings about the changes in their lives and the losses they have experienced. Presentations could include dance, music, art, games, food, cultural traditions, story telling, drama and more or any ideas that will engage the children and provide an interactive experience for them.

Some experience working with kids is helpful but not required. We ask that you have an appreciation of varying language skills, including an interest in working with children from other countries and cultures. The experiences should be 30-45 minutes in length and the presenters are needed on Monday or Thursday afternoon at either 2 or 3 o'clock. Presentations will be for groups of 12-16 children and 8-10 adult facilitators. The children on Monday are 10-11 years old and the children on Thursday are 12 - 14 years old with the participants being both male and female.
