Please help the DLWA monitor the boat launches of the Damariscotta Lake for invasive aquatic species. These plants, such as eurasian milfoil, may hitch-hike on the propellers of boats coming from infested lakes and become established in a new body of water from only a small plant fragment. Once present, they are virtually impossible to eliminate even with costly and on-going treatment and removal, and they may crowd out native vegetation, reducing both the biological and recreational value of the lake.
Through a Courtesy Boat Inspection program, volunteers will check boats being launched into the lake to make sure they are not carrying invasive aquatic species. Inspection times will most likely be during weekends and other periods of heavy recreational boating traffic and can be divided into whatever length time periods each volunteer is comfortable with.
Courtesy Boat Inspectors (CBI) must attend a free CBI training. This year's training will be held on Saturday, May 30th at the Nobleboro Town Office at 9:30 AM.
This training is co-sponsored with the Pemaquid Watershed Association and led by the Maine Congress of Lakes Association.
