As a result of President Obama's United We Serve, 9/11 has been recognized as a national day of service and remembrance. Help serve your community and pay respect to the heroes and victims of 9/11 by joining Volunteers of America Northern New England in their effort to restore features of local affordable housing for low income seniors. Volunteers will be serving at the Margaret Chase Smith House in Augusta on Friday, September 11th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. They will be performing tasks such as painting rooms and exterior handrails, washing windows and landscaping. Volunteers in Portland will be helping with the Bayview Hieghts Annual Yard Sale. Help will be needed for set-up, take down, preparing delcious treats for the bakesale and a cashier. The yard sale will occur on Saturday, September 12th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saco volunteers will be serving the Paul Hazelton House by painting interior hallways from 9:00 a.m until 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11th. Lunch will be provided at all locations!
