The mission of Camp AmeriKids is to enhance the lives of youth in the Tri-State Area who are infected with or affected by HIV/AIDS by providing a traditional summer camp experience, year-round skill building and a supported transition into adulthood.

Description:
Camp AmeriKids is offered at no cost to the families who are referred to us from agencies in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. We rely on donations from individuals, foundations and corporations to support our operating costs and are staffed each summer by volunteers.

Camp AmeriKids is currently looking for mature, committed, caring, and energetic volunteers to create an unforgettable camping experience filled with fun, love, and emotional security for all of our special campers. Volunteer positions include camp counselors, social workers, operations assistant and program staff.

Location: Warwick, NY
Session 1: July 25 - August 2
Session 2: August 6 - August 14

Volunteer counselors must be 18 years of age (and preferably a year out of high school) or older. A team of 6-8 counselors is responsible for the 24-hour supervision of a 12-16 child cabin. Counselors spend each fun-filled day of camp with their cabin as they rotate through activities and participate in new and exciting program areas provided by the program staff.

The enthusiastic participation in all aspects of camp from meals and activities to nightly special events and cabin chats is crucial in creating a memorable camp experience for counselors and campers alike. Volunteer counselors are exceptional role models, amazing resources of energy and ideas, and the most important part of the Camp AmeriKids experience for our campers.

In order to participate in this program, volunteers must commit to at least one session, nine days in duration, but are welcome to participate in both sessions. This includes a one-day orientation training session in which the volunteers will receive training in HIV/AIDS, child development, as well as the safety procedures of camp prior to the arrival of the children. Once the children arrive, the volunteers will participate in eight days of activities, games and special events, all while serving as part of a volunteer counselor team.

In addition to the volunteer camp counselor positions, Camp AmeriKids seeks to fill volunteer social worker, operations assistant and program staff positions for both sessions. History:
Camp AmeriKids, Inc. was founded in 1995 by Robert C. Macauley in the hopes of reaching out to an underserved population close to home. It was this wish which created Camp AmeriKids, Inc. Since our first summer in 1995 when we served 80 children in one five-day session, we have grown to serving 250 children per summer in two, eight day sessions. This is all made possible with an incredibly talented and dedicated staff of over 100 volunteers. Please consider joining our team this summer!
