Positive, adult role models are needed for one-on-one mentoring relationships with children in all 19 of our Norwalk Public Schools. Adult mentors spend one hour per week throughout the school year meeting with the child with whom they are matched reading, playing games, working on the computer, going outside or just talking. At the high school level, mentors are exploring career interests and discussing college plans with their mentees. Adult mentors act as friends and supporters for identified students on the brink of success. The Norwalk Mentor Program is a school-based Program, so all meetings must take place during the school day at the school site. Mentors must be 18 or older and undergo a background check to be considered. Mentors must also attend a training before being matched with a student.
