Family HomeStead- - CO - Denver
Family HomeStead exists to house homeless families (with children) and end homelessness for individual families in our programs in the Metro Denver Area.
Description:
Family HomeStead provides emergency and transitional housing and supportive case management for homeless families with children. Believing that most families with children do not belong in shelters, we house all clients in individual living units, whether they are participating in our 30-90 day Emergency Housing Program or our six-month Transitional Housing Program. Staff case managers develop an individualized case plan with each family that emphasizes finding permanent housing and developing/maintaining an income to support that housing. Case managers also help clients deal with the issues that caused their homelessness or are barriers to overcoming homelessness so that, hopefully, the family will not become homeless again.
History:
Family HomeStead was founded in 1978 as a coalition of service providers responding to the destruction of short-term low-cost housing for homeless families resulting from extensive urban renewal. We remain the only agency in the City of Denver that exists to provide emergency and transitional housing in individual living units, as well as supportive case management, solely to homeless families with children. Having begun with 10 units, we currently place families in 30 emergency units and 58 transitional units located in Denver and Lakewood. Supportive case management services help parents take charge of their family's life and make progress toward economic stability. We serve families throughout the entire Denver Metro Area.
