Amazing Grace

Agency Details:

Amazing Grace

Mission statement:
St. Vincent DePaul Place provides food, clothing, shelter and basic human services to poor and homeless individuals regardless of race, creed, natural origin, criminal history or recidivism.

Description:
St. Vincent DePaul Place provides food to individuals and families through our community soup kitchen and we offer emergency assistance and outreach services to connect people to basic services that help address health needs, mental illness, addictions, housing and unemployment through our outreach program. Amazing Grace is a community food pantry operated by St. Vincent DePaul Place. Our supported housing programs serve 55 individuals with disabilities providing them with daily living assistance (residents of Liberty Commons, adjacent to our soup kitchen and chronically homeless individuals through our Next Step/HUD housing program).

History:
St. Vincent De Paul Place was founded in 1980 to meet the needs of the poor and homeless in Greater Middletown, Connecticut. St. Vincent De Paul has never operated under any other name, and is independent of other organizations that have similar names.
The Community Assistance Program was established in 1999 at the request of The Middletown Clergy Assoc. Funding for the Community Assistance Program is provided by churches, civic and corporate organizations throughout the Middletown area. The Clergy Association asked if people seeking financial assistance could be referred to our Outreach worker at St. Vincent De Paul Place. At a centralized location, more individuals and families could apply and receive consistent help with dignity in effort to end or avoid homelessness.
In 2007, we began the Next Steps/HUD program in which we’ve placed 15 chronically homeless individuals in to their own apartments and are supplementing them with daily living support.
In 2009, we received the Community Impact Award from Middlesex United Way.
