Middlesex Habitat For Humanity Of Connecticut, Inc.
Middlesex Habitat for Humanity of CT Mission is to build, safe, simple, decent, affordable houses for eligible Habitat partner families.
Our Vision is to end substandard housing in Middlesex County, one house and one family at a time!
Description:
Middlesex Habitat for Humanity serves towns in Middlesex County. We look for land to build houses on for Habitat partner families.
All Habitat houses are built by volunteers! It is huge fun - join us! Not construction talented? That's OK, we will teach you or join one of our active groups or committees that makes building houses possible.
Habitat provides partner families with a hand up, not a hand out. Our partner families agree to repay the cost of their home to Habitat via a no-interest, no-profit mortgage which is held by the Middlesex Habitat for Humanity.
HFH is an equal housing organization. We follow HUD and Habitat for Humanity International guidelines in our family selection process, considering those with the greatest need first.
History:
Middlesex Habitat for Humanity (MHFH) affiliate was started in 1996 by a group of people eager to tackle the housing needs of their communities. The students of Wesleyan University were already committed to Habitat for Humanity International. Their campus chapter, WeShelter, was instrumental in the creation of the MHFH affiliate and works closely with us on each new building project.
MHFH has built or rehabbed six houses in Middletown, two houses in East Hampton, and two houses frames built here and delivered to Mobile, AL for Hurricane victims.
Our next house will begin construction in the Spring of 2007. It will be new construction for a house in Middletown.
WE ALWAYS NEED LAND!
We acquire land and houses to rehab through property donations, tax liens and very low-cost sales from both individuals and towns. People donating land can get tax benefits!
With the dedication of hundreds of volunteers, we are providing home ownership to partner families in Middlesex County. You can help us carry on this important work.
Call the office, 860-343-9179, and ask for Joyce. She will help you get started!
